BCI Supported China Day at Harrogate Grammar School

Date

The annual ‘China Day’ for students at Harrogate Grammar School marks another successful year of Mandarin education and Chinese cultural experience at our Confucius Classroom.

The event this year took place on Thursday 13 October. The event saw our new BCI teachers, Yuanyuan Liang, Yuqing Wang and Yixuan Deng.

Our teachers ran four workshops including:

  • Calligraphy
  • Paper-cutting
  • Folk Dance
  • Taichi sessions

All the activities included an element of language learning, and students made amazing progress throughout the day. The programme for the day aims to open their eyes to a completely different culture and show them what they can learn if they choose to take Mandarin classes in the future.

Calligraphy

In Zodiac &Calligraphy class, students learned about the story of Zodiac and knew their own animal signs. Under the guidance of teacher, students knew how to use the pen brush to write their own animal signs and how to say "我属(My animal sign is)______" in Chinese.

Papercutting

In Paper-cutting class, students mastered the development of paper-cutting. Moreover, they could cut out pandas, tigers and other patterns by themselves.

Folk Dance

In Folk Dance class, students learned the beauty of Chinese Folk dances, and could follow the teacher to do some dance movements.#

Taichi

In Taichi class, teacher taught the students some basic knowledge of Taichi, such as Fist-palm salute and lunges. With the help of teacher, students could do Taichi movements of 起势( starting the momentum ) and 野马分鬃(parting the mustang's mane.)
