The Business Confucius Institute held various activities and events to celebrate the institute’s 10th anniversary on the week commencing 14 November 2022.

On Monday, the Business Confucius Institute hosted an Open Day with various events free to anyone interested in the Chinese language and culture. Throughout the day, multiple workshops were organised by our teachers. We organised calligraphy and Chinese paper-cutting workshops at our BCI office and provided two Chinese folk-dance workshops in collaboration with the World Unite Festival by Leeds University Union. Students learned the history of Chinese characters (汉字) and calligraphy, Chinese paper-cutting methods and Chinese traditional dance.

On Tuesday, we held an online networking event for Chinese learners. This was a great opportunity for people of different backgrounds to come together and share their experiences of experience of learning Chinese, their motivations, and how the Chinese language helped their employability. Over 2o people ranged from students to professionals attended the event and reflected on their study journey so far to take inspiration from others attending the event.

On Wednesday, we hosted our main networking event to celebrate the institute’s 10th anniversary. The event saw over 50 attendance from BCI partnership organisations, past students and friends and colleagues of the university.  The executive director Dr Giles Blackburne and the Chinese director Prof Zhang Xiaofeng gave their remarks for the events and oversaw the past 10 years of BCI.  The event closed off with a traditional Chinese dance performance named “彩云之南” (Home of Beautiful Clouds) by three Chinese dancers from CSSA.
