On 18 May 2023 the Business Confucius Institute welcomed renowned International Business scholar Professor Xiaolan Fu to give a guest lecture at Leeds University Business School.

In this hybrid event, well attended both in-person and online, Professor Fu shared her perspective on 'China in 2030 and its role in the world economy'.

Following an overview of China's economic development up to now and a summary of the country's challenges and opportunities, Professor Fu predicted that after the current period of slower growth China will bounce back and transition into innovation-driven growth.

This was followed by a lively Q&A session.

BCI Executive Director Dr Giles Blackburne said:

At a time of global uncertainty and tension, this presentation was a very timely contribution to our understanding of China and its future role in the world economy. We cannot ignore China and the need to cooperate in order to solve global challenges is greater than ever.
