Hometown in China: JIANG XI PROVINCE
Favourite food: hot pot
Hobbies: make handicrafts
Favourite thing about teaching Chinese: I feel happy when students can express themselves fluently in Chinese!
Top tip for beginner learners of Chinese: We must be brave enough to express ourselves, even if the grammar and vocabulary are wrong, it doesn’t matter!
Top tip for more advanced learners of Chinese: Listen more and chat with local speakers to learn more authentic expressions
Favourite Chinese saying or chengyu:长风破浪会有时,直挂云帆济沧海。(A time will come to ride the wind and cleave the waves, I’ll set my cloud like sail to cross the sea which raves. )
A Chinese TV show I recommend to students:《爱情公寓》
This TV series is absolutely fascinating; it revolves around a group of young people renting a house together and unfolds heartwarming yet humorous stories about their shared life. The language used in this show is very much what we use in our everyday conversations—utterly colloquial and authentic. If you're keen on learning Mandarin by watching Chinese TV series, this one is a must-see!
