Unleash Your Creativity – Celebrate Chinese Culture Through Writing!

Calling all students with a passion for language and a curiosity about Chinese culture! The Leeds Business Confucius Institute invites you to take part in its exciting annual Chinese Writing Competition, where your creativity and language skills can shine.

With three prizes available in each category beginner to advanced — that’s nine chances to win in total — there’s even more reason to get involved. Whether you’re a lover of the Chinese language, an aspiring business leader, or simply fascinated by the Chinese zodiac, this is your opportunity to express your thoughts in a fun and meaningful way.

📝 The Questions:

• Advanced (1500 characters limit): Which Chinese invention or innovation do you think has had the greatest impact on the world, and why?
• Intermediate (1000 characters limit): Tell me about your dreams for the future?
• Beginner (750 characters limit): What is your favourite Chinese holiday/festival?

• Please note: By submitting an entry, you agree that your work may be used and shared across the BCI’s social media channels.

• 1st Place: £100
• 2nd Place: £50
• 3rd Place: £25

✉️ How to Enter:

1. Entries can be written in traditional or simplified characters
2. Entries can be written digitally, or by hand.
3. Digital entries can be emailed to [email protected]
4. By hand entries can be sent in the post to the Leeds Confucius Institute OR can be clearly photographed and submitted via email.

👥 Who Can Enter?

1. This competition is open to everyone who is learning Chinese as language! (i.e. it isn't your mother tongue)
2. Has a connection to Leeds Business Confucius Institute - (i.e. - is from Leeds, or is a Leeds University student, or is one of our Mandarin students, or is a student at a school we support etc)

No worries! We’re offering free online writing workshops to help you perfect your entry. Over the two weeks leading up to the deadline, you can book a Zoom or Teams session with one of our teachers to get feedback and tips on improving your writing.
