Volunteer With the Business Confucius Institute

We are always looking for enthusiastic students who want to share their talents, contribute to our cultural activities, and help bring Chinese culture to our wider community.
Volunteering with us is unpaid, but it offers excellent experience, opportunities to develop new skills, and the chance to be part of a vibrant cultural community. We are also happy to provide a certificate of participation or a reference upon successful completion of your volunteering.
Below are the two types of volunteer we are looking for -
1. Cultural Skills & Talent Volunteers

Share your passion. Inspire others. Celebrate Chinese culture.
Are you a student with a cultural skill, art form, or talent you’d love to share?
We welcome volunteers who can help introduce authentic Chinese culture through demonstrations, performances, and interactive sessions.
We welcome students with any China‑related skill, including:
🎨 Arts & Crafts
- Chinese Calligraphy (书法)
- Chinese Painting / Ink Wash Painting (国画 / 水墨画)
- Paper Cutting (剪纸)
- Knot Making (中国结)
- Lantern Making (灯笼制作)
🎶 Music & Performance
- Traditional Instruments (Guzheng, Pipa, Dizi, Erhu, Sheng, Suona, etc.)
- Chinese Dance (中国舞) – traditional, folk, classical, or modern
- Chinese Opera Demonstrations (京剧 / 川剧 basics)
- Singing Chinese folk songs or popular songs
- Taichi (太极) demonstrations
- Martial Arts (武术) – Kungfu, Wushu, etc.
🎉 Games, Hobbies & Social Activities
- Mahjong (麻将)
- Chinese Chess (象棋)
- Go / Weiqi (围棋)
- Tea Ceremony or Tea Culture (茶文化)
- Chinese festivals knowledge (e.g., traditions for Spring Festival, Mid‑Autumn, Dragon Boat Festival)
🍜 Food & Culture
- Demonstrating simple traditional snacks (cold dishes, dumpling folding, mooncake moulding, etc.)
- Teaching about Chinese food culture/regional cuisines (川菜, 粤菜, 鲁菜, 苏菜 etc.)
🎨 Creative & Modern Skills
- Chinese pop culture (C‑pop, dramas, animations, online culture)
- Chinese fashion (Hanfu, Qipao, modern trends)
- Digital art or design inspired by Chinese culture
- Handcrafts like embroidery or fan‑decorating
What You Might Do
- Participate in cultural festivals and special events
- Lead or support beginner workshops
- Demonstrate your skills at outreach activities
- Share your cultural knowledge with the community

2. Social Media, Photography & Video Volunteers

For students who love content creation and visual storytelling.
Do you enjoy taking photos, filming short videos, or creating engaging content?
Our events are colourful, energetic, and visually striking—perfect for building a creative portfolio.
What You Can Do
- Take event photos
- Capture short videos for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube
- Create behind‑the‑scenes content
- Assist with basic editing (optional)
- Contribute creative ideas for social media storytelling
