About the Author

Jonathan Fenby is a British writer, journalist and analyst. He has a wealth of experience as a writer and commentator on China since going to Hong Kong to edit the South China Morning Post from 1995-2000. He was previously chief correspondent in France for both Reuters and The Economist, Assistant Editor of The Independent, Deputy Editor of the Guardian and Editor of the Observer.

Jonathan is the author of sixteen books, eight of them on China. His History of Modern China was chosen as a book of the year by The Economist and Financial Times, and Tiger Head, Snake Tails: China Today was similarly named by several newspapers. He broadcasts frequently on CNBC, BBC, CNN and Bloomberg among other broadcast media, and lectures on contemporary China in the UK, US, Europe and East Asia. He has a degree in philosophy, politics and economics from New College at University of Oxford and is a Research Associate at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London.

A co-founder of Trusted Sources research service, Jonathan has headed the four–person China country team since 2006. His specialist area is policy interpretation, politics and the broader political economy together with China’s external relations.
