Our 2024 China Camp trip took a diverse group of fourteen participants to Beijing and Xi'an during the Easter break.

Colleagues at our partner university, The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), worked tirelessly to put together the packed two-week programme of activities, which included:

  • Chinese lessons
  • A visit to the Great Wall of China
  • A trip to the ancient city of Xi'an and visit to the Terracotta Warriors
  • Calligraphy and paper cutting classes
  • Visits to schools and universities
  • A visit to the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven

One participant said:

UIBE staff and students have been so welcoming and friendly. Everyone went to great lengths to help us with anything we needed. I always felt comfortable asking questions about things and everyone was always really happy and engaged in answering questions and sharing their culture and experiences. I think everyone involved has done an incredible job of showcasing the heart of what the China Camp is about, bringing together different cultures and forming lasting international bonds.

Others commented on the lifelong memories that they made, and the fact that the trip had helped them see China through new eyes and see beyond stereotypes. From the experience of walking down a city street lined with trees and plants, to the seamless integration of technology like WeChat and Alipay in daily life, this was an opportunity to experience China first-hand.

Many participants returned to the UK more determined than ever to continue improving their Chinese language skills.

China Camps are funded by the Centre for Chinese Language and Education Cooperation (CLEC) and UIBE, with all costs in China covered.
