On 20 and 21 June the Business Confucius Institute supported the East Asian Studies Department to host nearly 90 young Mandarin learners for a day of Chinese language and culture.

The students from Crossley Heath Academy, Macmillan Academy and Pudsey Grange School are all taking part in the Mandarin Excellence Programme (MEP).

Business Confucius Institute (BCI) teachers contributed their talents in three special sessions: Hanfu, Tai Chi Fan and Chinese Painting.

In the Hanfu class, students were introduced to the history of Chinese traditional Hanfu clothing before designing their own Hanfu styles with colored pens on paper.

The painting session saw students creating delightful panda-themed Chinese paintings as they practiced their technique with brush and ink.

Tai Chi Fan is both a martial art and a performance, and the students from all three schools were particularly excited to follow along as the teachers demonstrated the dynamic movements.
