Chinese Calligraphy Workshop – A Cultural Celebration at Leeds University

As part of the University’s World Unite Festival (WU Fest), 15 students gathered on Tuesday, 11th November for an inspiring Chinese Calligraphy Workshop in the Student Union. The event offered a unique opportunity to explore the beauty and artistry of traditional Chinese writing.

During the calligraphy workshop, participants learned how to write their names in Chinese characters and created personalized bookmarks to take home—a perfect blend of creativity and cultural appreciation. With only 30 spots available, the workshop was an intimate and hands-on experience, allowing everyone to engage deeply with this ancient art form.

The session was hosted by Qingyuan Yang and Jiahui Zhou, who guided attendees through the techniques and cultural significance of Chinese calligraphy.  Grace Moore, a second-year Journalism student, also attended the event to record video clips and interview the hosts, capturing their insights and the vibrant atmosphere.

The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, with students from diverse backgrounds coming together to celebrate culture, creativity, and connection. No prior experience was needed, just curiosity and enthusiasm!

This event was a wonderful reminder of the richness of global traditions and the joy of learning something new. Thank you to the 15 attendees who joined us and made it such a memorable part of the World Unite Festival!
