Business Confucius Institute Connects with More Than 1,200 Students at Global Opportunities Fair
The Business Confucius Institute (BCI) joined colleagues from across the University at the Global Opportunities Fair, engaging with students interested in studying, travelling and building international experiences in China and beyond.
Showcasing Global Opportunities
The Business Confucius Institute was delighted to take part in the Global Opportunities Fair, held in the Welcome Marquee on 14 October 2026.
Organised by the University's Global Opportunities team, the event brought together a wide range of services, programmes and initiatives designed to help students explore international experiences during their time at the University of Leeds. Throughout the day, the BCI team welcomed students to its stand and discussed the many opportunities available for those interested in China, Chinese culture and intercultural learning.
Students were able to learn more about the Institute's popular China Camp programme, scholarship opportunities and other ways to gain valuable international experience. The event also provided an opportunity to highlight the benefits of engaging with different cultures and developing a global outlook alongside academic studies.
Engaging Students in International Experiences
The fair attracted significant interest from students eager to learn more about overseas opportunities and globally focused activities available through the University.
The BCI team spoke with students from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds, answering questions about travel opportunities, cultural programmes and pathways to deepen their understanding of China. These conversations highlighted growing enthusiasm among students for international experiences that can enhance both their personal development and future career prospects.
As well as opportunities abroad, discussions also focused on ways students can engage with Chinese culture and language here in Leeds through BCI events, Mandarin courses, guest lectures and cultural activities throughout the academic year.
A Successful Day of Global Engagement
Following the event, organiser Fion Wong (she/her) Global Opportunities Assistant Manager shared the scale of student engagement achieved during the fair:
"We had over 1,200 students visiting the Marquee. We're very grateful for the time, energy and support you gave to help make the event such a success."
The impressive attendance reflected strong student interest in international opportunities and provided an excellent platform for the Business Confucius Institute to connect with both new and returning students.
The event also strengthened collaboration between the BCI and colleagues across the University who are committed to supporting students in developing global perspectives and international experiences.
Looking Ahead
The Global Opportunities Fair marks the beginning of another exciting year of international engagement for the Business Confucius Institute. Students interested in exploring China-related opportunities will be able to take part in a diverse programme of activities, including cultural events, language learning opportunities, guest lectures and overseas experiences.
The conversations held throughout the day demonstrated the value students place on developing intercultural understanding and gaining experiences that broaden their perspectives beyond the classroom.
Supporting Global Citizens
Participation in the Global Opportunities Fair reflects the Business Confucius Institute's ongoing commitment to promoting Chinese language learning, cultural exchange and international engagement. By helping students explore opportunities in China and develop a global outlook, the Institute continues to support the University of Leeds' mission to prepare graduates for success in an increasingly interconnected world.
