LCCS Summer Fair Brings Culture, Community, and Celebration to Leeds

 On July 6, 2025, the Leeds Chinese Community School (LCCS) hosted a joyful Summer Fair at the Anglers Club, bringing together families, performers, and guests from across the city. The event was full of colour, culture, and community spirit — a wonderful celebration of everything LCCS stands for.

The Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds, a long-time supporter of LCCS, joined in the festivities. Hu Rong, the BCI’s Chinese Director, gave a warm and heartfelt speech, recognising the school’s important role in promoting Chinese language and culture in Leeds. She also shared the Institute’s continued commitment to supporting local education and cultural exchange.

Leeds City Councillors Asghar Khan and Katie Dye were among the special guests, along with representatives from local Chinese community organisations who came to show their support.

The day began with a beautiful guzheng performance by Zhang Lijun, a PhD student at the University of Leeds, which set the tone for an afternoon filled with music, dance, and laughter. Students, teachers, and volunteers from LCCS delivered a rich mix of performances, blending traditional Chinese instruments like the pipa and konghou with Western favourites like guitar, drums, and violin. The fusion of Chinese and Latin dance was a crowd favourite, earning plenty of cheers and applause.

One of the highlights of the fair was the Hanfu experience, where guests had the chance to try on traditional Chinese clothing. Organised by teachers Liu Xiaolong, Bai Yingying, and Chen Junyi from the Business Confucius Institute, the activity was a big hit. Children and adults alike loved dressing up and snapping photos — a fun and interactive way to experience Chinese culture firsthand.

The fair ended on a touching note, with the LCCS teaching team performing a group song, “Together with You”, bringing the whole event to a heartfelt close.

This year’s Summer Fair was more than just an afternoon of fun — it was a celebration of cultural connection, community pride, and shared values. It also highlighted the strong partnership between LCCS and the Business Confucius Institute, who continue to work together to build understanding and friendship between cultures.
