Favourite thing about teaching Chinese

I love to discuss different cultures with my students, particularly talking about different cuisines! Finding out about the tastiest foods from different countries. Seeing the improvement of my students makes me really happy.

Top tip for beginner learners of Chinese

You need to know what your motivation for learning Chinese is, and also be confident in yourself! Whilst learning Chinese it is certain that you will meet some problems, its important to always keep going!

Top tip for more advanced learners of Chinese

You definitely need to find some Chinese friends, and discuss more advanced topics. 'Id also advise watching Chinese TV shows, particularly 后宫·甄嬛传 (Zhen Huan Zhuan) an amazing period drama about the power struggles and love stories between the emperor and his concubines!

Favourite Chinese saying or chengyu

持之以恒 (chí zhī yǐ héng- a rough translation is "always keep going")

I think that in most circumstances the most important way forward is just to keep going! That's why this is my favourite Chengyu

A Chinese TV show I recommend to students

脱口秀大会 - tuō kǒu xiù dàhuì

They will discuss some stories and socially popular news items. An example is they discuss some of the funny relations between a wife and in laws. it's really great for Chinese language learners.
