Calling all students with a passion for language and a curiosity about Chinese culture! The Leeds Business Confucius Institute invites you to take part in the exciting Chinese Writing Competition, where your creativity and language skills can shine. Whether you’re an a lover of Chinese language, an aspiring business leader, or simply fascinated by the Chinese zodiac, this is your opportunity to express your thoughts in a fun and meaningful way.

The Questions:

• Advanced (1500 characters limit): If you could set up your dream business, what would it be?
• Intermediate (1000 characters limit): What’s your favourite part of Chinese culture, and why?
• School (750 characters limit): What’s your favourite Chinese zodiac animal, and why?

• Competition Opens: November 13, 2024
• Deadline: December 6, 2024
• Send your entries to: [email protected] or post them to: Leeds Business Confucius Institute, 22 Clarendon Place, Leeds LS2 9JY

Prizes to be Won:

• 1st Place: £251 (because £250 has a funny meaning in Chinese!)
• 2nd Place: £125
• 3rd Place: £75

How to Enter:

1. Entries can be written in traditional or simplified characters
2. Entries can be written digitally, or by hand.
3. Digital entries can be emailed to [email protected]
4. By hand entries can be sent in the post to the Leeds Confucius Institute OR can be clearly photographed and submitted via email.

Open to?

1. This competition is open to everyone who is learning Chinese as language! (i.e. it isn't your mother tongue)
2. Has a connection to Leeds Business Confucius Institute - (i.e. - is from Leeds, or is a Leeds University student, or is one of our Mandarin students, or is a student at a school we support etc)

Need Some Help?

No worries! We’re offering free online writing workshops to help you perfect your entry. Over the two weeks leading up to the deadline, you can book a Zoom or Teams session with one of our teachers to get feedback and tips on improving your writing. You can book these workshops via your teacher, or by emailing [email protected]
