The Business Confucius Institute (BCI) at the University of Leeds announced and held a Chinese writing competition that provided students with an opportunity to practice their Chinese writing.

Students of the University of Leeds participated in a Chinese writing competition that was announced at the beginning of the first teaching week of this academic year (3 October).

The goal of this competition was to encourage students’ Chinese language learning, as well as to create an opportunity for students to express their understanding of Chinese culture and experiences with learning Mandarin. The topic of this year’s writing competition was “My Story with Chinese Language” (我和中文的故事). Students had one month to prepare and finish writing their stories. We received multiple excellent submissions, each of them portraying unique stories and experiences with Mandarin Chinese.

We awarded 4 winners of the competition on 17 November with cash prizes and BCI certificates. The award ceremony was held during the BCI 10th Anniversary Celebration Week, so we invited the successful candidates along to our 10th Anniversary Networking Event for us all to celebrate together!

The competition was a great success and we hope to further support Chinese learners’ in their journey of learning Mandarin and further understanding Chinese culture through similar events in the future.
