The 14th Annual Chinese Teaching Conference, hosted by the University College London Institute of Education’s Confucius Institute for Schools, was held on 23rd and 24th June in London.

The Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds (BCI) was invited to join this annual Chinese teaching event with other Chinese teachers from local schools and institutes. Ms Yan Hongwei, Chinese Director at the BCI, attended the conference with Chinese Instructor Mr Chao Kong.

Mr. Wang Yongli, Minister Counsellor for Education at Chinese Embassy in London, delivered a keynote speech on the opening ceremony emphasising the important role that teachers have to play in improving Chinese language teaching in the UK.

The annual conference is a key professional development and networking opportunity for teachers of Chinese working in the British education system.  The theme this year was “Expanding Excellence: Raising Expectation, Increasing Fluency” and attendees benefitted from a wide range of plenaries and Chinese teaching workshops.
