Visit Leeds China Forum

Aimed at the local visitor economy, the Visit Leeds China Forum aims to provide support for businesses hoping to tap into the huge potential of the inbound Chinese visitor market.

Our role in the Forum

The Business Confucius Institute is pleased to be working closely with Visit Leeds to support local businesses that wish to learn more about Chinese language and culture to serve their Chinese customers better. We provide Chinese language training for China Forum members.

We also offer Chinese language courses, Chinese Proficiency Exams and an events programme.

Summer Consultancy Project: student reflections

Participating in a Leeds University Business School (LUBS) Summer Consultancy Project gave Consumer Analytics and Marketing Strategy student Ha Thu Nguyen the opportunity to respond to a real-life business brief, while also improving her intercultural competence and understanding of Chinese culture. Read her reflections on the linguistic and cultural factors that had an impact on the process, and the steps she took to overcome barriers.

Report: Chinese consumer shopping behaviour in Leeds

In this report commissioned by the Business Confucius Institute (BCI), Consumer Analytics and Marketing Strategy student Ha Thu Nguyen shares her research into Chinese consumer shopping behaviour in Leeds and makes recommendations for retailer promotional activity on key dates.

Working with students and business

The BCI has commissioned a student at Leeds University Business School (LUBS) to carry out a consultancy project as part of her Master's course. The research she does in response to brief from the BCI will form an important part of her academic work and help local businesses understand their Chinese customers better.

Chinese Proficiency Exams

We are an official test centre for standardised Mandarin language tests recognised around the world. We hope that more businesses will follow in the footsteps of the Grand Hotel and Spa in York, where staff took HSK level 1 to demonstrate the progress they made during their language course.
